ITINERARY        MONGOLIAN ADVENTURE        AUGUST 2007

Day 1 (Fri Aug. 10): Arrive Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to the Hotel .. The Khan Palace.  A/N Visit Bogd Khan winter palace museum, National history museum and at 7:00 pm we join the evening folk song/dance performance. Followed by dinner in a GER Restuarant. O/N Khan Palace Hotel. (L & D)

Day 2 (Sat Aug. 11): Zaisan and Terelj Nature reserve. Early morning drive to Zaisan Hill…photographic session.. Return for B/fast, before driving to Terelj National Park. Introduction about Mongolian ger, traditional nomadic dwelling. Take part in preparation of Mongolian traditional food such as diary products and drinks. This evening we could also organise typical Mongolian nomads way of cooking (sheep or goat BBQ). Driving distance 70 kms, 1 hour.   Overnight in Gers.  (B,L,D)

Day 3 (SunAug.12): Whole day with nomads. Today we enjoy with nomads pasturing cattle, goat and sheep. Stay with the cattle and help intaking care of them. Camp fire with traditional Mongolian games amongst the group Dinner and overnight in Gers.. (BLD)

Day 4 (Mon Aug.13): Gun Galuut nature reserve. We now drive further to Gun Galuut Nature reserve which is 180 kms east to Ulaanbaatar to see the Nomads Day festival. Distance 80 kms, 1 hour. (G) (BLD)

Day 5 (Tue Aug.14): Gun Galuut camp. Experience all kinds of customs, traditions, lifestyle, songs, dance fests and religious ceremonies of the Mongolian nomads. Overnight at base camp in Gers. (BLD)

Day 6 ( Wed Aug. 15): Back to UB and flight to Murun. We drive back to UB. In the afternoon fly to Murun, centre of Huvsgul province. Drive to Khatgal town, the gateway to the Khovsgol National Park. Forest surrounded, 100 miles long lake Khovsgol which is one of the deepest in Central Asia and holds 2% of the world’s fresh water resource. Arrive at the camp and explore the lake. Wander around the lake area  and (excluded) hire a boat to enjoy this spectacular blue lake surrounded by an alpine wilderness of forests, mountains and meadows. Overnight in Ger camp at lake. Distance 110 kms, 2hrs.30 – 3 hours. (BLD)  

Day 7 & 8 ( ThuAug. 16 & Fri Aug 17): Visit the Tsaatans (a reindeer breeding family). We  enjoy our time with the reindeer nomads and study their lifestyle, they will also perform some shaman and we have opportunity have camp fire. (C) (BLD)

Day 9 ( Sat Aug.18):  Back to UB through Murun. Drive to Murun through Khatgal and flight back to UB. Distance approximately 300 kms. Transfer to Khan Palace hotel. (BLD)

Day 10 (SunAug. 19): Mini Naadam. Full day enjoying watching mini naadam. (G) (BLD)

Day 11 ( MonAug. 20): Flight to Bayan-Olgiy. Flight to Olgiy, capital city of Bayan-Olgiy. Fleeing          tribal  warfare in the late 1600s, a small group of Kazakhs settled in Bayan-Olgiy, Mongolia’s westernmost province, separated from the rest of Mongolia by the Hovd River and from China by the Altai Mountains. Thus isolated, these Muslims pastor lists have been able to keep their language, cultural traditions, and identity as Kazakhs. No paved roads lead into Bayan-Olgiy, We settle in our tent. Overnight in tents. (C) (BLD)  

Day 12 & 13 (Tue Aug. 21 &Wed Aug 22):  We spend time with a group of Kazakhs who hunt with golden eagles, a tradition more than a thousand years old. Kazakhs inherited the sport from Turkic ancestors and were already practicing it when they emerged as an ethnic group in the 15th century. In Mongolia the tradition lives on among the Kazakhs, who proudly practice the sport that  they learned from their fathers and teach to their sons.    We see the full technique of training of eagles. And get an opportunity to establish close relations with Kazakh nomads, eat, drink and sing songs with them. Some Kazakhs will perform folk dances and sing their songs. (C) (BLD)

Day 14 (Thu Aug. 23): Flight back to UB. Transfer to Khan palace hotel, clean up and dinner. (H) (BLD)

Day 15 (Fri Aug. 24): In UB.  Final day of Departure

The details  of our Pre-trip extension are under finalisation, but the highlights of our programme in BEIJING, while we are there, staying in Crown Plaza  for 4 Nights and 5 days, from 

Mon 06 Aug to  Fri 10 Aug ’07, would include  

Day  01  A/n Arrive in Beijing and transfer to hotel. Welcome Dinner. 

Day 02  Visit: Lama Temple in the morning, Tour Hutong on Rickshaws for a glimpse of local Beijing life, including photographic session and Lunch with a local family Evening show with backstage visit BLD.

Day 03  Visit Great Wall at Simatai. The energetic ones can hike for 4 hours to Jimshanling If so they  will be provided a Lunch Box. Dinner at Golden  Loulan Xinjinag Uyghur Restaurant. BLD

Day 04  Visit Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City ,Temple of Heaven, a Second Hand market; followed by Dinner and show at Laoshe Tea  House  incl Beijing Opera  BLD
